Nate Berkus is an interior designer and TV personality, who runs the firm Nate Berkus Associates, based in Chicago but with projects all over the world. With a clearly eclectic style, we are impressed by the way he can successfully mix completely different pieces into one room and achieve a relaxed glam look on his designs.

[Warm] Winter

Siendo honestas, estamos acostumbradas a temperaturas de playa y a inviernos más bien cálidos, ya que hemos estado la mayor parte de nuestras vidas entre Miami y Santo Domingo. También tenemos la fortuna de haber vivido, aunque por breve tiempo, en ciudades con inviernos marcados  en donde puedes vivir y disfrutar de cada estación. En Madrid hace bastante frío estos días, por lo que para nosotras no hay mejor sensación que llegar a casa, preparar un café o chocolate caliente en tu taza favorita, sentarte en el salón con una mantita y sentirte en tu propio mundo acogedor y lleno de calidez. Aquí les dejamos algunas de nuestras piezas favoritas para calentar el hogar durante el invierno.

To be honest with you, we are more used to beach weather and rather warm winters, since we have lived most of our lives between Miami and Santo Domingo. We are very fortunate to have also lived in cities with ‘real winters’,  where you can enjoy the differences between each season. Madrid is quite cold these days, so to us there is no better feeling than to get home, pour yourself a cup of coffee or hot cocoa in your favorite mug, sit in your living room with a warm blanket, and just enjoy the feeling that you are in your very own cozy little world. Here are some of our favorites to make your home warm and cozy during winter time.

Wynwood Art District- Urban art in Miami

Hello everybody, happy new year! After a long break from blogging we are back. We’ve barely had any free time in our schedule these past few months since Darys has been crazy busy at work, and I was studying for a couple of exams towards getting my US architectural license. Everybody in the arch profession knows how these exams can be quite the grueling process. But guess what? PASS for both of them, so 4 down, only 3 more exams to go! I actually received the news for one of them via e-mail on Christmas day, and let me tell you, it was the best Christmas present a girl could get! We may have to take another quick break once the next test dates start approaching so we ask for a little bit of your patience while we get those monsters out of the way!

Since we spent Christmas and new year’s at Miami, we though it would be a good idea to share with everyone from out of town some images of our visit to the Wynwood Arts District. It’s amazing to see how much the city has evolved over the last couple of years. Definitely urban art at its finest. We just couldn’t get enough of the place!

Casa Mono, Madrid

If you like eclectic but modern design then you will absolutely love the aesthetics of this restaurant. We have been to Casa Mono on many occasions and we love it, so this post was way overdue!

Si te gusta el diseño ecléctico pero moderno, entonces te encantará la estética de diseño de este restaurante. Hemos estado en Casa Mono en varias ocasiones y nos encanta, por lo que  ya teníamos ganas de hacer este post desde hace tiempo!

With a ‘New York feel’ to it but located in Madrid, Casa Mono is a great place to visit if you are in town.

The project designers, Lázaro Rosa-Violán Contemporain Studio accomplished to merge seamlessly into the design the restaurant’s motto: ‘kitchen, drinks and friends’, with an eating area, the terrace, and a bar.

One of our favorite design features? The lighting and all the different pendants used in the space.

Design classics: Coderch (Disa) lamp

We’ve had a crazy couple of weeks that have unfortunately kept us from posting but thankfully we are back with tons of things to share with you. Today we want to show you an iconic lamp that we’ve seen many times,  but were not that familiar with its designer. Jose Antonio Coderch, a spanish architect born in Barcelona in 1913,  is considered by many as the main figure of the ‘rebirth’ of architecture during the Spanish post-war era. His awarded lamp design, created in 1957, was composed with very thin wood sheets (or methacrylate) held together with bolts to create a pumpkin shaped screen. The main feature of the wooden version of the object, according to the designer was that  “the light it creates gives a sense of intimacy and resembles the fire of a fireplace”.

Hemos tenido un par de semanas muy agitadas que nos han impedido hacer posts, pero ya estamos de vuelta a la normalidad con muchísimas cositas para compartir con ustedes. Hoy queremos mostrarles una lámpara icónica que hemos visto muchísimas veces pero que no estábamos muy familiarizadas con su diseñador. Jose Antonio Coderch es un arquitecto español nacido en Barcelona en 1913, considerado por muchos como la figura más importante de la arquitectura española en la época de la post-guerra . Su premiado diseño creado en 1957, esta compuesto de láminas muy finas de madera (o de metacrilato) unidas con tornillos formando una ‘calabaza’. La cualidad principal de la versión en madera de la lámpara según Coderch es: “la luz que producía daba intimidad y se parecía al fuego de una chimenea”.

Waking up in Cadiz, Spain

With a waterfront that takes you back to a city in the caribbean, Cadiz is one of the most beautiful places to visit in southern Spain, although it is not as well known to foreigners as other spanish staple cities such as Barcelona, Seville or Madrid. We are lucky enough to enjoy family and friends, and wake up to this view every time we visit. We’ll be sharing with you more interesting things about this great city in upcoming posts.

Con un frente marino que recuerda una ciudad caribeña, Cádiz es uno de los lugares con más encanto para visitar en el sur de España, aunque no es tan conocido como otras ciudades ‘clave’ para visitantes extranjeros como Barcelona, Sevilla o Madrid. Tenemos mucha suerte de poder disfrutar de nuestros familiares y amigos y poder despertar con esta vista cada vez que visitamos. Seguiremos compartiendo con ustedes mucho más sobre esta ciudad milenaria en próximos posts!

We want to go back to Montecristi!

What a great time we had! We cant wait to go back to Montecristi, a small town in the northern area of the Dominican Republic, known for its “chivo liniero”, the magnificent “Morro” and its red sand beaches surrounded by mountains.  Truly an out of the ordinary place. We’ll post more pictures very soon!

Que bien la pasamos en Montecristi, una pequeña población en el norte de la República Dominicana.Tenemos muchísimas ganas de regresar muy pronto! Conocida por el “chivo linero”, el imponente “Morro” y sus playas de arena roja rodeada de montañas, es realmente un lugar extraordinario. Agregaremos más imágenes muy pronto!
