Wynwood Art District- Urban art in Miami

Hello everybody, happy new year! After a long break from blogging we are back. We’ve barely had any free time in our schedule these past few months since Darys has been crazy busy at work, and I was studying for a couple of exams towards getting my US architectural license. Everybody in the arch profession knows how these exams can be quite the grueling process. But guess what? PASS for both of them, so 4 down, only 3 more exams to go! I actually received the news for one of them via e-mail on Christmas day, and let me tell you, it was the best Christmas present a girl could get! We may have to take another quick break once the next test dates start approaching so we ask for a little bit of your patience while we get those monsters out of the way!

Since we spent Christmas and new year’s at Miami, we though it would be a good idea to share with everyone from out of town some images of our visit to the Wynwood Arts District. It’s amazing to see how much the city has evolved over the last couple of years. Definitely urban art at its finest. We just couldn’t get enough of the place!

Must visit places: Wynwood walls, Wynwood Kitchen and bar, Wood tavern, The Butcher Shop, Panther Coffee

Who needs a rug? A great find on the road

Hello everyone, we are back!

We didn’t want our vacays to be over but we are certainly happy to be back with you! These past two weeks of traveling around Florida and the DR were incredibly fun, and we’ll be sharing some cool things from our trip in the next few posts. This had to be the first one though, since we fell in love with these babies as soon as we laid eyes on them. These funky and yet delicate looking handmade rugs can be spotted while traveling through the northern part of the DR. The locals hand craft these beauties, in all colors of the rainbow and they even create some pattern combinations. We couldn’t help but get a couple of these for ourselves, and the best thing is that  with our purchase we get to help the local artisans!

Spanish Colors

This weekend we got to experience a “Spanish Cultural Immersion”. We went to a ‘Feria de Sevilla’ (Seville Fair) party held in Madrid in a must visit spot if you are ever in the Parque del Retiro, Puerta de Alcala area, a.n.E.l. Afterwards we went to see a “corrida de toros” (Spanish Style bull fighting) with the bullfighter Talavante. We experienced in one weekend what we feel summarizes the beauty, richness and power of the Spanish culture: At times shocking, with a deep melancholy and sorrow in the air. Soulful. Other times regal and traditional with a feeling of grandiose. Proud of their past and customs. A LOT of gusto. Other moments were very happy, full of laughter and people danced with a zest for life and a hint of swagger!  Some splashes of OLE!! (Spanish word used to express approval) here and there, and last but not least VERY VERY colorful!  If you ever need to design something Spanish-inspired, these images can help you, enjoy!

Colorful Doors

Spring is here, and we are looking forward to see more color on the streets. We just love a pop of color! A great way to update an otherwise traditional facade is adding this type of statement in the entrance. Would you dare paint your front door pink? We would totally go for turquoise!

***
